My name is Justin Loar, and I'm a technical designer. I'm currently in the middle of an overhaul of my portfolio, so please pardon my mess.

I'm currently the Lead Mission Designer at Gearbox Software on Borderlands 4.

I worked on a bunch of missions and systems for Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, as well as seasonal events and Takedown challenge missions. I was the mission designer for the Borderlands 3 Director's Cut DLC, Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, and several side missions.

My work primarily focuses on narrative design, scripted events, encounter design, systems, and rational level design.

I am also a game design educator. I've partnered with high schools, universities, and other organizations to mentor junior designers. I conduct portfolio reviews and mock interviews at GDC and year-round by request. We're all in this together. ​
